The trend in concept phones these days is turning retro, which is why we have the “Dial” reminisce the era of the round-dials on phones. The difference however lies in the present concept being touted as a fashion accessory that can be crafted in the metal of choice; giving you the luxury of being, chic, sporty, or uber-rich. A projected light beam in the inner circle impersonates the rotary dial, but to dial a number you need to simply touch it. Quite interesting.

Mouse Pen?

Flattery is going to get you everywhere Mr Marcial Ahsayane, and I love the way you describe this concept project as a standard mouse that can be used as pen sensor for specific design works such as designing this entry for Yanko! Hugs! Shifting focus to the “eVouse”, this one is meant for your laptops and iPads and flits effortlessly between being a mouse and a pen sensor for specific design works.

“The design of the mouse is a mix between a classic mouse and a tablet pc. The actions buttons and the scroll are tactile. It becomes illuminated by green light in every action movement as a feedback for its use. In fact, eVouse is, like the Minotaur, a design with body of a mouse and the head and tail of an optical pen.”

This mouse is called the “G-Spot” – I am not even effin with you. Where to find the mysterious spot of pleasure’s center? With which woman will it be found? Can it be found? These are all questions. Is this spot to be found within devices? Perhaps a mouse? And if so, what would happen if that spot were found?

To where would it lead?

Any sensible person’s mousy G-Spot would lead directly to Yanko Design, of course! Oh my goodness! The shame! I’ve told you the truth. This mouse has a secret spot. When you find it, to your favorite place on the computer it’s connected to you will go, be it your email provider or your favorite industrial design blog news website. There ye shall be.

Refrigerator That Grows Plants

So you lack the green thumb but still love fresh green vegetables. Facts like light, water, temperature, space, moisture, nutrition, supervision and knowledge are all gibberish to you. No worries because Ms Hanna Sandström has been doing some homework for you, she’s worked in sync with Green Fortune & Whirlpool to come up with a refrigerator that will nurture a seed to a plant. Of course it’s restricted to herbs and greens, and details on HOW it would function are sketchy. All we know is that by placing lettuce plants and herbs purchased from the supermarket into the Kitchen Garden system, you can prolong their life and continue to grow them. The system automatically waters and gives light to the garden. Alternatively, by changing a few settings and some trays, it helps you grow a seed to a robust plant for chomping.

Going by the demand for organic fresh greens, this could be a hit idea!

MacBook Touch?

Designer Tommaso Gecchelin isn’t oblivious to all the rumors surrounding a netbook or tablet-like PC made by our favorite fruit manufacturer. We try not to indulge in rumors here at YD but sometimes they do provide fuel for inspiration, such is the case with this MacBook Touch. Gecchelin reasons if Apple were to go small, flexibility may be more important than hard rigidness – a trend current Apple laptops buck because they’re in favor of unibody construction. Flexible OLED technology may be the key because it can provide the rich color and resolution density needed for a smaller screen without being a power hog and resists damage by its malleable nature. The thinnest screens now are barely 8mm thick and can fold like a piece of paper. The core of this concept is a technology he calls iSpine. Like the spine of a book, the tech avoid excessive compression on the screen, yet allows the laptop to sit in multiple viewing positions. Go from a normal laptop with screen and touchscreen board – to a large widescreen canvas for drawing, presentation or movie watching. To keep everything minimal, ports like power, the mini display, and additional USB are externalized on a “Magic Dock” to keep most of the laptop slim and clean of an array of holes and plugs.

The Oven Re-constructed

There’s been a trend to separate ovens and cooktop surfaces but Ciprian Frunzeanu thinks that’s the wrong way to go. For maximum space and energy efficiency, he presents the Oven Re-Constructed. The cooktop surface is made of a series of plates. You cook on them like any other induction surface but they can also be arranged into a cube to form an oven. Snazzy.

Magical Transparent Fireplace

The beauty of the Electrolux Fireplace is that it stands out as this opaque ceramic column that slowly turns translucent to transparent, as the flames flare up. Upon cooling down the column goes back to being the white shaft it was. Kinda like now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t. Maybe the impending winter has something to do with it, but I think this design is awesome! The video is cool too.

Creative Music Interaction

Touchtable is a PMP that is interactive and intuitive. It features a large controller wheel that surrounds the screen and performs just like a turntable. It’s even sensitive to touch and pressure and when you use it in combo with the surrounding function buttons, it facilitates absolute user control over a track, through precise position, timing and pitch manipulation.

Features:

One function button controls the simultaneous switching to a secondary track, allowing the user to mix records on the fly, or to scratch samples over a track.

Through the cue output, each track is directed to either the left or right headphone, the beat and pitch can then be matched, a cue point created, and the combined tracks mixed out the main phono output.

Two devices can also be combined wirelessly at the click of a button, to act similarly to the traditional DJ set up, just at around 1:8 the scale.

This function also allows for multiple users to mix and scratch tracks together, combining their own Touchtable devices through one output.

The device not only adds interaction to the personal listening experience, but can be used for performance.

The Touchtable can be plugged into a computer, where it acts as a midi device, working with built in software, allowing complete creativity and control over customization and music creation.

Touchtable allows for complex interactions, comparable to a complete DJ set up, however the device itself is very simplistic: designed for ease of assembly/disassembly, interchangeability and miniaturization through technology. It is not only ultra portable, but cost effective, easy and enjoyable to use.

Actually, from the looks of it, Crank It might be what you’re doing in between recording it and playing it. Check this thing right here out. It is a cellphone, but that’s the simplest of the things it does. It not only records music, it not only edits music, it not only plays that same music you just recorded and edited, it can do all this without accessing a separate computer.

1. Talk to a bandmate on the phone, schedule a session.

2. Hook up some nice place, time, date, enter it in your calendar (also on the phone) and invite the rest of your band.

3. Jam together all in the same place or in 3 different places in the world! Each of your mates just has to take a different clip from their phone and connect it to their instrument.

4. Record in what I can only assume is perfect quality.

5. Edit on the go! Simple controls and really weird and awesome interactive twists and turns make you an edit maestro.

6. Get to a party, wedding, or bar mitzvah, and play that track right from the phone! This is a device which is severely music-based.

Not only does their music explode people’s eardrums, the visuals explode their eyeballskins. What’s new in that? It’s faderTouch. A rear projection touchscreen interface developed by VJ Fader, aka James Cui.

With a 400 lumen projector and an infared touch screen panel, you’ll be bright. With a steel frame construction and collapsibility, all carried easy by a turntable road case, you’ll get reeespect.

Designed to hold custom visuals, comes standard with visual performance software programmed in Processing. And not only can it project wild visuals, with the touchscreen you bet you can play wild audio as well! Multiple instruments programmed in to make this screen a brand new instrument in and of itself!
